It's the Therapy, For Me!

Therapy, my opinion…is a form of self-care!


In full transparency, I have a therapist, and this is one of the best decisions I have ever made! According to Forbes, many people still have the mindset that seeking therapy makes you weak or have major issues. However, having a therapist is the exact opposite… in my opinion. Let’s keep it all the way real, nobody is perfect, and we all go through things, be it happy or sad…it’s life…we’re all human.


Therapy just doesn’t mean a couch that you sit on to assess your life or who you are. Therapy could be talking to your pastor, going through pre-marital counseling, meeting with a professional quarterly to level set, or it could really be…sitting on that couch…, and that is OKAY! *Sometimes that couch time for me be all I need, 100% FACTS Y’ALL*.


I will not sit here and make it seem to you all like I got my life altogether because HONEY – I DO NOT! Sometimes my conversations with my therapist are challenging and involve working through issues (personal or marital) or celebrating and learning how to continue the positivity (personal or marital). Let me share this, I can recall a lot of my sessions when my therapist and I are talking through my anxiety (I’m not embarrassed to admit that I have anxiety *shrugs*), my ability to overthink situations at times, difficult milestones that appear as we get older such as death or illness, and sometimes I meet with them to just TALK.


Yep, TALK…talk to someone that has an unbiased opinion, that can catch if something is subconsciously nagging at my spirit, laugh with and sometimes cry, and to continue to develop into a better version of ME.


At the end of the day, my main goal is to be a better ME…if I am better, everything else (again, my opinion only) flows differently; I can navigate and accept the positive and/or negative circumstances that may arise.


Shout Out To My Friends!


Some of my closest friends are therapists…and I can tell LOL!! Sometimes we can all be talking, and I look up at them, and they are looking at whoever is speaking with such compassion; and might I add we don’t even be talking about anything serious (I am laughing so hard right now). Then at times, they drop some major (free might I add, thank you!) gems in the conversation, and I am like, dang, let me write that down. So, allow me this time to shout out my personal therapist. I am blessed to call friends…whoever your clients may be. They are definitely blessed (I love y’all)!


As I Haste To A Close (LOL)...


I say all this to say…if you have a therapist, KUDOS to you, if you are thinking about getting a therapist, don’t wait any longer. If in your opinion, you don’t believe in having a therapist…that’s okay too… just don’t judge or insult others who have a different opinion.
